Formation of MDI as an institute

• MDI was formed on 1st August 2007
• Modeled on Korean Development Institute (KDI) as a research institute on public policy
• Reports to EPU
• Collaborates with ministries/agencies and value-adds to Malaysian development policies
• Promotes strong links with research fraternity (domestic and international)

Functions

As a “think-tank”:

• To develop strategic macro-directions and strategies for growth and development along the thrusts of the National Mission
• To develop and undertake systematic policy research and evaluation programs related to the National Mission
• To provide in-depth insights for the formulation of socio-economic and development policy
• To propose policy recommendations in resolving socio-economic and development issues.
